WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR CREATING A GREEN SCREEN VIDEO?

Make sure your subject is not holding or wearing anything green

Avoid using reflective or shiny objects as they can pick green from the screen and will be rendered transparent. Although small jewellery seems to be acceptable.

In front of a green backdrop, actors can appear pale. You might need to make some cosmetic changes.

To get a full shot of your actor, you'll need to back up the camera enough to get a full figure shot, as well as enough distance between the subject and the green screen (typically at least 6 feet to avoid "spill").

To show your actor/subject from head to toe, the green screen must extend all the way down the wall and onto the floor beneath their feet.

To achieve an equal texture and gradient, light the green screen as smoothly as possible.

Maintain a uniform colour spectrum by keeping the green screen as clean and smooth as possible. If the screen is made of fabric, it should be wrinkle-free. If the surface is painted, keep sufficient paint on hand to fix scuffs and scratches.

The green background should be lighted separately from the subject to avoid the following: a) the subject throwing shadows on the background (creating an uneven gradient) and b) a green hue bouncing off the subject, producing difficulties when removing the background.

Keep the camera fully still for simple green screen shots. You can employ motion control and motion trackers to create more sophisticated 3D shots, but it requires far more work on the part of the visual effects team.

Conduct research and consider software options based on the number of shots required, the editing system used, the money available, and the user experience.
